Plaintain Poultice
So, I have a finger infection. It’s commonly referred to as bar rot and in the doctor world known as paronychia. Always had beginning signs of it from working with food, but it’s never gotten to this point before.
The first thing I was told to do (thank you Florida School of Holistic Living) was to soak it in warm water and epsom salt and a touch of tea tree oil and or lavender. I soaked it for about 25 minutes.
Next, a poultice is made of plaintain, a very common weed growing all over Florida. Plaintain is known to pull toxins out of the skin. A good friend of mine once pulled glass and pieces of asphalt out of his face with plaintain poultices! Woah.
Plantago major

So, to do this, you can lightly chew the plaintain in your mouth, and then apply to the area that is infected.

Freshly applied plaintain poultice.

Next, I wrapped the plaintain with a piece of a comfrey leaf. Comfrey has long soft and hairy leaves that feel like nature’s band aids.
Symphytum officinale

Wrapping a piece of the comfrey around the plaintain poultice…

I then wrapped the comfrey and plaintain poultice with some gauze and taped it up with waterproof tape. 2-4 hours and then soak it again, repeat!
